With four wins in the first eight races in the Chase for the Sprint Cup, Tony Stewart is rolling like thunder across the NASCAR betting landscape.

Stewart now sits a mere three points behind leader Carl Edwards in the driver standings, and will be gunning for his third straight victory this Sunday in the Kobalt Tools 500 at Phoenix International Speedway. And at short 6/1 odds, Stewart is also the betting favorite to visit Victory Lane once again this weekend.

There are only two races remaining before the Sprint Cup is awarded to the champion driver for 2011, and Stewart has won the past two as well as the first two races of the ten events that make up the Chase. Edwards, meanwhile, has yet to win a Chase race but has been a model of competitive consistency all season long with an amazing 24 finishes inside the Top 10.

Edwards, and five-time defending champion Jimmie Johnson, are both listed right behind Stewart at 7/1 odds to take the checkered flag at the Kobalt Tools 500. Johnson is all but out of contention for this year’s Sprint Cup however, as he sits a distant 55 points behind Edwards in sixth place among the dozen Chase drivers. Edwards won the Kobalt Tools 500 on the NASCAR circuit last year.

Jeff Gordon (15/2 odds) and Kyle Busch (8/1) round out the Top 5 contenders to win on Sunday in Phoenix, with Gordon returning to the track as the winner of the Subway Fresh Fit 500 that was held back in February.

Kevin Harvick, who sits third in the standings at 33 points behind Edwards, and fourth-place Matt Kenseth who is 38 points back, are both listed at 12/1 odds to win the Kobalt Tools 500, along with Denny Hamlin, who is 99 points behind in tenth place.
