NFL Week 6 Betting Lines: San Francisco 49ers vs Detroit Lions

Before the season started, I’m guessing most people weren’t overly excited over this week’s San Francisco 49ers vs Detroit Lions matchup, but now this one is one of the top games of Week 6 and features surprising two division leaders. Detroit opened as a 4-point favorite on Bodog Sportsbook’s NFL Week 6 Betting Lines.
The San Francisco 49ers (4-1) look like a different team under new head coach Jim Harbaugh. They should be 5-0 like Detroit in many respects, but San Francisco threw away a game against Dallas in Week 2. Last week, the 49ers had by far their most impressive game so far, clubbing a good Tampa Bay team 48-3. San Francisco QB Alex Smith again was efficient, throwing for three touchdowns and no picks (he is No. 3 in QB rating in the league) and RB Frank Gore ran for a touchdown in his second straight 100-yard rushing game. The Niners are off to their best start in nine years, the last time they made the playoffs, and was the biggest margin of defeat for the franchise since 1987.
The Detroit Lions (5-0) are one of two unbeatens left along with division rival Green Bay. It will be a short week for Detroit, which handled the Bears 24-13 in the Lions’ first home Monday night game since 2001. Calvin Johnson caught his ninth TD pass of the season already, which is an NFL record through a team’s five games. He is on pace to break Randy Moss' NFL record of 23 touchdown receptions in 2007. And Jahvid Best had the best game of his career, running for 168 yards – including an 88-yard score – on just 12 carries. The Lions are off to their best start since 1956 and have won nine in a row dating to last year (13 if you count the 2011 preseason.
Of course the Niners’ Smith and Lions QB Matthew Stafford are both former No. 1 overall picks. Best may find the going tough against the Niners’ defense, which has a streak of 27 consecutive games without allowing a 100-yard rusher.
