The Wisconsin Badgers went 10-3 last year and beat “The U” in its bowl game. They are one of the most consistent teams in the nation, routinely winning 9-10 games and has been ranked in the top 25 five out of six years. They bring back a ton of offense into 2010.
Many starters are back and with their three great running backs, will pound and ground their opponents into submission. The defense is not as good as the offense, but still formidable. They are not experienced on the line, but the rest of the defense is experienced and talented. They will hold down the rebels for sure.
UNLV is simply trying to gain a new philosophy to get the program on track. Coach Hauck was one of the best FCS coaches until he brought his talents to the Rebels. They will segway form a shotgun to a more traditional under center set that should suit quarterback Omar Clayton. They also have a lot of returning talent, and should be fairly good this season if the new offense sets in. The defense has always been talented, but they have also underachieved. They might be coached into playing better, but it might take some time for the metamorphosis to happen.
The key to this game is the Wisconsin running game. If their three backs can penetrate into the Rebel secondary, they will gain yards in chunks while keeping the Badger defense off the field. This will also wear down the UNLV defense, making their job that much easier.
Bet: The Badgers have too much stability and returning talent to be denied in this game. Even though they’re giving 20.5, I still like them to cover the spread in a game with quite a bit of scoring. I like the Rebels going forward, maybe peaking at the end of the year, but it’s far too early to contend with the likes of Wisconsin.
