BetUS Series of the Weekend – New York in Texas

BetUS Series of the Weekend – New York in Texas - C.J. Wilson

The Texas Rangers are retuning home after a long road trip that has left them a little ruffled, and things don’t get much easier for this MLB betting darling either.

The Rangers will host the New York Yankees in a heated matchup that could very well serve as an American League Pennant preview.

The Yankees hold the better baseball betting record so far with a 6-4 SU history in the past 10 games against Texas, but I firmly believe that Texas’ pitching can outduel whoever the Yankees put on the mound this weekend and will make for a solid play in the BetUS sportsbook.

New York Yankees @ Texas Rangers on YES, KTXA, FSH

Game 1Friday, 8:05 p.m. ETJavier Vazquez (10-9) vs. C.J. Wilson (14-6)

Watching Javier Vazquez collect $11.5 million for being one game over .500, with a bloated 5.01 ERA is enough to make my blood boil. Inconsistency has been a major problem for Vazquez, who was torched in his last outing against Texas with 8 hits and 6 runs allowed in just 4.1 innings. Think the Rangers are excited to see him again? You can bet your MLB betting dollars they are.

Countering for the home team will be C.J. Wilson, a pitcher who has quietly put together a 14-6 SU record over 28 starts with a solid 3.01 ERA. Asking me to bet against C.J. Wilson is like asking me to bet on Vazquez. It ain’t happening, especially with Wilson at home.

Game 2Saturday, 8:05 p.m. ETA.J. Burnett (10-13) vs. Tommy Hunter (4-6)

Want to know what’s worse than paying Vazquez when no contender in their right mind would have? Paying A.J. Burnett $16.5 million for a 10-13 SU record. In fact, the Yankees have gone 1-4 SU in their last five road games when Burnett starts on the mound. He managed a home win over Oakland recently, but went through August and June without a single decision, or team victory.

Since most of the rotation fell apart for the Rangers early in the season, they’ve had to lean on Tommy Hunter quite a bit. The hefty 280 pound pitcher has strung together a 12-3 SU record with a 3.99 ERA and though he’s never faced the Yankees, the Rangers are 7-1 SU at home when Hunter starts.

Game 3Sunday, 3:05 p.m. ETDustin Moseley (4-2) vs. Cliff Lee (10-8)

Thanks to the inability of New York’s starting rotation, Dustin Moseley was yanked out of the bullpen and thrust in. Since August, the Yankees are a polished 4-2 SU when Moseley starts the game. But I doubt that he’s ready for a raucous crowd in Texas, which happens to be a team he hasn’t faced this season. Still, the kid has produced in harsh scenarios before.

Unfortunately, I think this is the game where New York tries to burn through its bullpen to avoid a sweep. You can’t trust Cliff Lee right now, especially since he’s been out for nearly two weeks with an injury.

Even before that, the Rangers have lost their last 5 games when Lee starts. As high profile as Lee is, if you are looking to bet on baseball, I think this is the game Texas loses in the series for the Yankees avoid the sweep.
