Rory McIlroy - 2011 Dubai World Championship Odds: McIlroy and Westwood at 5 for 1

The final piece of the global golf betting puzzle for 2011 will fall into place this weekend as the European Tour crowns its champion player by determining the winner of the season-long Race to Dubai, as the Dubai World Championship unfolds at Jumeirah Golf Estates in the United Arab Emirates.

World No. 1 Luke Donald and second-ranked Rory McIlroy are the only two players who still have a shot at winning the Race to Dubai, which recognizes the year’s top player and leading money-winner on the European Tour.

McIlroy, who is coming off a victory last week at the Hong Kong Open, needs to win the Dubai World Championship tournament this weekend and hope that Donald finishes no higher than tenth in order to upset the top-ranked Englishman and win the Race to Dubai.

Accordingly, Donald is listed as heavy chalk at 1/20 odds to win the Race to Dubai, while McIlroy is an 8/1 longshot to pull off a stunning come-from-behind victory. Donald was already the leading money-winner on the PGA Tour this season, and duplicating that feat on the European Tour would be an unprecedented accomplishment.

Only the Top 60 players on the European Tour’s money list qualify for this week’s season-ending tournament, and the incredibly strong field has been further reduced by two players with the withdrawals of Justin Rose of England and Fredrik Jacobson of Sweden.

McIlroy is the golf betting favorite to win the tournament at 5/1 odds while Donald is rated as the third contender at 10/1 odds, just behind Lee Westwood who also won a title last week at the Nedbank Golf Challenge in Sun City, South Africa and is listed at 11/2 odds.

Martin Kaymer (12/1), Sergio Garcia (14/1), and Paul Casey (18/1) round out the Top 6 contenders to win this weekend, with Charl Schwartzel (22/1), Ian Poulter (22/1), Robert Karlsson (22/1), and Graeme McDowell (28/1) completing the Top 10.
